Summary: Northwest winds gusting from 30 to 35 mph along with relative humidity values from 20 to 25 percent will exist across portions of central and northeast South Dakota and west central Minnesota the remainder of this afternoon into early evening. With dry fuels in place, any fires that develop could spread quickly. Conditions will improve closer to sunset. Consider postponing burning due to the high grassland fire danger.

Summary: A combination of strong northwest winds, a few gusts around 40 mph, as well as afternoon relative humidity around 15 to 20 percent, will lead to near critical fire weather conditions. While many fuels are seeing a quick green up, warm season tall grasses are still lagging and continue to be nearly fully cured. Fires will spread rapidly and show erratic behavior. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
