Story Behind the Art:
Chucam is a small farming village located in the Department (County) of El Quiche, Guatemala. The community is located about 3 miles away from the town of Chichicastenango, but the road to town is not paved and access to the village becomes difficult during the rainy season. The families of the community are very poor, but the women know the ancestral art of weaving and use it as a supplemental income to provide a better life for their children. In 2001, eight Chucam families banded together to form a weaving cooperative to make beautiful patchwork quilts and other embroidered textiles. More importantly, the men don't have to leave for months at a time looking for work in the sugar cane fields and many more of the village's children are able to stay in school.

During the 1970s, Isidoro C'cahuantico was forced to migrate when terrorist activities swept his region. Accepting various jobs, he soon found himself working as a janitor in a textile factory. At night, when everyone had gone home, I began to look at the looms and machines and to experiment with them. The owner asked who kept adjusting the loom, and was surprised to learn the culprit was me. She said that if I really wanted to learn, I should learn to assemble one of the spare looms in the warehouse. That was one of the most important and memorable moments in my life.'

Story Behind the Art:
LDF has supported 25 women in New Delhi, India, for the past three years. LDF has provided business skills training, life skills training, and growth opportunities to the women and their children. It ensures a healthy work environment with abundant lighting and ventilation. By now the women of Living Dreams have their own stories to tell. One is now successfully on her own and able to provide education to her siblings. Another has bought a small piece of land for her family, which could not have been imagined before. These and many others continue to grow from this program.

Machilipatnam is known for its Kalamkari textiles and paintings created using vegetable dyes. As a kalam (pen) is used in the technique of painting, it was called "Kalamkari Painting". During the 17th century, western traders were attracted by this art.

Story Behind the Art:
These duvets are block printed in Bagru, which is a small down near Jaipur, in Rajastan within Western India. Rajastan is well known for it's block printing cottage industry. The village of Bagru is primarily a block printing village; printing is the primary industry there. Blocks are hand-carved by one lot of craftsmen and printing is done by another. The purchase of these items helps support this artisan community and gives them the resources necessary for a brighter future.

Story Behind the Art:
'My name is Isidoro C'cahuantico. In the 1970's I was forced to migrate when terrorist activities swept my region. I found a job as janitor in a textile factory. I was completely fascinated! At night, when everyone had gone, I began to experiment with the looms. The manager caught me and said I should star by learning how to assemble a loom. That was the beginning of a vocation, a great gift that I have now also passed to my children.'

Story Behind the Art:
'Hello. My name is Sandeep but friends and family call me Prince. I really don't know how I got this name, and I never bothered to ask, because I enjoy it. I was born and brought up in Delhi, where I completed all my schooling, then earned a degree at Delhi University. I had lots of fun, but I also had to take on many responsibilities. My family has worked with textiles since 1968. In 1991, while I was still studying, I began to get involved in my family's endeavor. After graduating, I partnered with my family in our business. My father looks after the yarn spinning, and I handle the making of the textiles. We design and create shawls, throws, stoles, cushion covers, tablemats, curtains, etc. Some 30 artisans collaborate with us now.'
